ColumbiaSoft released a new version of its leading document management software – Document Locator 2021, and it includes a complete makeover of the popular WebTools Web browser edition, plus an all-new option to use WebTools inside an application instead of a browser. The release also has updates to the traditional Windows-integrated version of the software.
“Our new WebTools has a modern, innovative design that sets a new standard for how people share and collaborate in a document management system,” said ColumbiaSoft Senior Web Developer Jeff Evans. “We are particularly excited to also bring this new user experience inside an application, which opens doors for even greater functionality.”
In the past, Document Locator has been available as a Windows-integrated option, a Web browser option, and a Mobile option. In this latest release, users now also have the option to use WebTools as a standalone application.
Better user experience in WebTools
WebTools in Document Locator 2021 has an entirely new look with a consolidated design and handy breadcrumb navigation replacing the tree-and-folder experience of past versions. The updated user experience is based less on the traditional Windows analogy and instead offers a more modern approach to file management. The latest version also includes a new Home Page where administrators can publish customized content and information in a portal for users.
WebTools Desktop offers even more advantages
The WebTools Desktop edition has functional advantages over using WebTools in a browser. For example, in WebTools Desktop people can quickly check-out files and open them in their associated application and then check them back in again with similar ease as using the Windows Desktop edition. Quick navigation between repositories is another key feature in the WebTools Desktop edition.
Windows Desktop gets upgrades too
Several improvements are made in Document Locator’s Windows Desktop Edition in version 2021:
- A new right-side information window that makes it easier to see file details
- Improved file preview technology
- A new “quick approval” workflow that allows users to quickly right-click and send files for approval
- An Outlook email approval workflow
- Upgraded support for the latest AutoCAD technology
